About

Healthcare's hardest problem is also its most invisible.

Our work is making it visible.

The problem that started it.

When Chelsie Rae Griffin's brother went into liver failure, the nurses on that unit became some of the most important people in her life. When Matt Terry's son spent his first week in a NICU, the same was true. The two experiences were ten years apart, in different cities, in different hospitals. The pattern was identical.

The nurses were exceptional. They were also exhausted, undervalued, and almost invisible to the systems that managed them. The hospital administrators making decisions about workload, recognition, and retention had no real way to see what those nurses were actually carrying.

Knowwn started in 2024 because we believed that gap was solvable. Not with another engagement survey. Not with a wellness app. With a tool that could see the people doing the work as specifically as the work itself demands.

What we believe.

Healthcare's strain crisis is not a feelings problem. It is an information problem. Hospitals collect more data on patient outcomes than ever before, and almost none on the humans delivering those outcomes. Generic engagement scores are not data. They are summaries that obscure what they are supposed to reveal.

Every care professional is a specific person. Every team is a specific composition. Every leader who is trying to support those people deserves a tool sharp enough to see them.

Grounded In

Four bodies of established research.

Knowwn is grounded in Self-Determination Theory, Conservation of Resources Theory, Job Demands-Resources Theory, and Person-Environment Fit research. We do not invent psychological frameworks. We translate the most rigorous research available into tools that hospital leaders can actually use, and that the people on those teams actually want to take.

Our story.

Knowwn was founded by Matt Terry and Chelsie Rae Griffin, who previously worked together at a startup and chose to do it again. Matt has built operations and frontline leadership systems at Target, Verishop, Thrive Market, and Caroo. Chelsie is a behavioral science and product development specialist who has led work in regulated industries and executive leadership development at companies including Edison International. Knowwn Charted, the assessment that anchors our platform, was designed by Chelsie and refined through extensive practitioner research.

In 2026, Jim Aylward joined as Chief Revenue Officer. Jim is a previous healthcare technology founder with multiple successful exits, and leads enterprise partnerships across hospital systems.

Our backgrounds span product, operations, behavioral science, customer experience and healthcare technology. Together we've spent decades inside the kind of complex systems hospitals run, and we know what it takes to build tools that perform at that scale.

We've built Knowwn with care because we believe the work demands it. Every person on this team has been hired for a specific reason, and every part of the product reflects that.

We're on a mission to make every healthcare worker feel valued for their work.
